I was the jury foreman in a murder trial several years ago. I actually thought it was a really interesting experience, but I was also in a very privileged position where someone could cover me at work so I could focus on the trial, and my employer covered my salary for the time I was out of the office. I imagine it was a much different experience for my fellow jurors who didn't have those luxuries.
That said, I think civic service is really important. So getting a jury summons in the mail isn't an anguish-inducing experience like it is for others... I'm always curious to see where it goes.
