What was the first major news story
that you remember as a child?

We did not have newspapers, TV, or radio. My grandfather had a radio in town and listened to boxing matches.

I was early teen before we got a telephone. No dial. You picked up the receiver and spoke to an operator who connected you with the person you were calling.

Then TV was black and white and very small. Still, I don't remember news just mostly Roy Rogers movies and music shows. I was outside playing, riding my bike or reading books in the hay mow in the barn. Before that one time we were invited to the neighbors to watch the Mickey Mouse show. After that we got our own TV.

I guess the one that would take precedence would be the rocket to the moon. Unless the news made a splash I did not pay it much attention.
