I was born in '48. For a long time I thought I remembered when the Chinese invaded Tibet but, when the net came along, I checked on the dates and it happened in about 1950, I think. Far too early for me to have been aware of the event. So I presume that what I'm remembering is the Dalai Lama's flight, which was in about 1958. So I'd have been ten or so and much more likely to have noticed such a fairly obscure matter. The news media must have rerun the tale of the invasion to give background and that is what gave me the impression of hearing about it actually as it happened. What makes the memory so vivid was my disgust at the unfairness of the takeover of so inoffensive a nation and culture.
