Ah, My dearest Lilli, The stats do not lie! And sadly are unaffected by our feelings. 90% of those in our prisons come from fatherless homes. This fact transcends all racial or other bounds and equations. The lack of a father in the home is the number one negative variable in all the studies worldwide. This doesn't mean one can't grow up fatherless and succeed. However, the chances of failure or simply not reaching one's potential are greatly enhanced. If you or someone you know and respect is one of the exceptions, their accomplishments are to be lauded—for the odds were against them. This is not hyperbolic rhetoric but the facts of today's social science. Just because we may not fit the mold doesn't mean it is non-existent. I fit into dozens of these differing societal castings, some considered positive, others not. I have learned not to make or offer excuses for the negative ones I escaped, for if not for my father and grandfather's whispers and shouts, playing in the background of my consciousness, I would be a very wicked, corrupt, unscrupulous, and most evil man! Here's one of many outstanding websites about this malady within the human condition. https://www.fatherhood.org/father-absence-statistic |
