Indoor plumbing. We had an outhouse and pumped water into a bucket from a hand pump which was kept on the sink for drinking and heating on a gas stove for cooking and The well was in an adjacent pump room connected to the house so you did not have to go outdoors in winter to pump water. The house had a kerosene heater in the living room and a pot bellied coal stove in the dining room. The coal room was adjacent to the pump room. We had some electricity. One central light bulb to a room and some rooms had one or two outlets. All my relatives had modern plumbing and electricity. We were the odd family of the bunch. I used to spend my weekends with my aunt so I could take a bath in a real tub.
My first husband tore down that house before he died. I bought the land and built a new A-frame house after he died. The new house is a modern three story house with indoor plumbing and heat runs. We heat with corn.
