If I had to pick between those two, I would say detective just because I don't find horror as appealing. Though I only read detective stories that have a strong romance element. On the other hand, I did read a couple of books that followed a detective who could see ghosts and used that to solve cold cases, which had a romance subplot too. Combinations can be fun.
