No set definition, but however it's used should make sense in the story. You're right, there are at least two possible uses. One is "hot" or "feverish" and relates to temperature. A second relates to extreme fervor, or enthusiasm. EIther is certainly fine. But a character could mis-use the word (malapropism), and that would be fine, too, or it could be something else altogether.
If you're interested, I also used this idea for the meeting of my local writing group at my home next week.. We're using it for a fun writing exercise. Here's the story I wrote: "Like a Hummingbird" . It's not exactly "inspired" by the song in question, althogh it's clearly related to the song....anyway, you get the idea. Loose connections are fine.
