Question of the Day!

As a writer and holding a qualification in publishing, I've always liked editing/proofreading - so I'd always wanted to do freelance editing/proofreading. Not as a fulltime job but on 'on the side'.

In December last year I signed up for a correspondence course on editing and proofreading. Because I'd looked at the course several times and finally made the decision, I paid up front. 3 grand. Anyway..... I completed five of the 12 modules and, somewhat oddly, I really didn't enjoy it. Part of me was thinking, the editing industry hasn't changed in the 20 years since I did the qualification (ouch, 20 years!!!) and partly was the tutor and the general way the course ran (it was legit). So.... anyway, when it came time to do the 6th module's assessment I had this 'yeah, no, don't wanna' and I withdrew from the course.

I have no regrets either way. I still want to proofread/edit blah blah for people, but at the moment I'm at least glad I 'tried' it rather than never tried.
