It would be the beach. I'm 2km inland from it and have visited it maybe 10 times total in the entire 17 years I've lived here. You might say I'm not a good spokesperson for the beach then, but I'm just not a water person.
The beach offers a stunning view of the large island a bit south (a bird sanctuary), plus the one further south (also a sanctuary, and I once went on a school trip to plant trees on it). Even further south, on a clear day, you can see the south island. Looking north you can see Mount Ruapehu (esp if it's got snow on it) and it's a good 250-300km away...
Plus, it's actually a good swimming beach and if you're then in Feb there's a huge kite festival going on.
