I suppose it depends upon what type of skill we're talking about. There are many that I've taught myself, without recourse to instruction manuals or assistance in any form, mainly because I had no access to such things. And I suppose there are other things that I've been moved to try by reading about them. But, much as I love watching YouTube videos by guys restoring old cars (for instance), I've never had an urge to emulate them. The whole point of a video is to avoid getting your own hands dirty, surely!
