October Novel Prep Challenge

Another thing that annoys me is when the characters suddenly have magic or powers that they didn't even come close to exhibiting in the rest of the story which turns the tide. The recent Borderlands movie is a case in point. How can a character go through her whole life to middle age without realising she can teleport, and then have complete control over the power to influence the ending?!
