And why would they not talk about their world? Are they afraid of humans overhearing their conversations? Do they not have a private language not translatable?

I think about if I was ever in a foreign country and didn't know the language. Would I speak English, as that is my first language, to converse with my travel companions? And I would try, perhaps, to speak the native tongue if I feel the need.

Anyway, I would say yes.
