Question of the Day!

Eh, kind of.

Not sure if these qualify as urban legends, as they are invariably rural, but I'm sure everyone knows the famous cryptids: Bigfoot, Jersey Devil, Mothman, etc.?

Well, in my area, the official word is that the mountain lion (or puma or cougar, felis concolor) has been extinct in Virginia for over a century. And yet, on occasion, we get reports from people camping/hiking up in the Blue Ridge that they definitely, no shit, swear to god, saw a mountain lion.

So we have the distinction of being the only place I know of where the local legend is an actual, scientifically known creature... just one that's not supposed to be there.

Lamest cryptid ever.
