not a playlist per se, but when i'm writing fiction i need some music in the background. i usually go for instrumental music or music in a language i don't speak. it has to be a specific intensity as well - neither too demanding of my attention, because then i won't be able to focus on my work, nor too ignorable, because at that point it'll make me too relaxed. as far as genres go, ambient dub and trip hop seem to easily hit that spot, but electronic music in general, some subgenres of jazz and some kinds of classical music are all perfect
something i've also done in the past was writing and recording a concept album, then expanding the "plot" in a collection of short stories inspired by the music. i should start doing that again soon with another album i released this year - doing both at the same time for that first one almost fried my brain, so i decided to wait a bit for this one instead
