After you request a password reset, you'll get an email with a link to set a new password.
Follow the link to set a new password... and then set a new password.
Then, use that new password to login to your account.
I understand it's an inconvenience. We updated our password system and password policies in the summer of 2019 after a security breach (which we notified everyone about via email). After some time, we had to start expiring passwords that were in the breach. Passwords on inactive accounts that haven't been changed since before the 2019 breach become expired and need to be changed to match the updated security policy we put in place 5 years ago.
