I feel as though the "fidget" and tactile engagement trend is because of our kids increased use of screens instead of using their hands to create and build. Also, in a larger sense, kids no longer have chores which require them to knead flour or cook in the old-fashioned way, and I've seen "dough" and slime and things which seem like a replacement for good old everyday things people used to do...
