When I was young, I didn't want to try any. Then I took a Japanese class where we had to do a cooking unit. One year we made a dish called Ohmu Rice. It's a scrambled chicken egg on top of ketchup and rice.
I didn't make it through that but it was still easier than making fried prawns. After "deveining" trimming and frying those bug eyed b**t*rds, I couldn't bring myself to eat any kind of shrimp ever again.
I totally get it. If no one had introduced me to Tempura Vegetables and Gyoza(dumplings) I would've just been eating mac-n-cheese for the rest of my life.
On the other hand, I was part of the local Star Trek fan club while living in Utah, HMS White Buffalo was the ship I belonged to. At our yearly Star-fleet promotion ceremony, we had "Romulan Ale" and "Klingon Blood Wine" because most of us weren't into alcohol, it wasn't anything but blue coconut soda and Hawaiian punch.
