To copy the username, don't click on the briefcase icon. Instead, right-click on the handle. A context menu pops up, and just a single left-click on the first line of it will copy the username. For instance, to copy my username, you'd right-click on the "Robert Waltz" part and not on the blue vulture icon part.

Also note that left-clicking on someone's handle brings up a different context menu. The copy-username thing only applies to right-clicking.
