I grew up on the Mesabi Iron Range in Minnesota and would go cliff diving in the abandoned mine pit by our house, but that wasn't the most dangerous. We had a low train trestle on the edge of town that was barely high enough for trucks to drive under.
I had the bright idea of hitching a ride over to Hibbing by hanging on the edge of the trestle and waiting for a grain truck to drive under, then dropped onto the tarped top for my ride. the drop wasn't bad, but there was nothing to hold onto as the truck accelerated out of town and I thought for sure I would slide off. Luckily in one sense of the word, the local police saw me on the truck and stopped it, had me climb down, and took me home. My luck turned for the worst when the police informed my mother of what I had done.
