I swear my superpower is that I can secretly talk to animals. I just haven’t figured out how to do it yet. But with how often critters wander up to me… it seems they just think I can… the other day, a Florida Panther just wandered out of the woods near my house and laid down in front of me for a while, staring at me. I should have been more afraid, but we just sat there across from each other, with about 40 feet between us. Eventually, he got up and continued on his merry way. I’ve had a lot of encounters with birds. They hop right up to me, hang out for a while. Lots of them have landed on my hands if I have seeds. Rabbits, tortoises, bobcats, stray dogs and cats, lizards, deer, bigger birds like wood storks and cranes… they all just wander right up to me. Maybe they’re looking for food, perhaps someone who lives near me feeds the wildlife regularly. Regardless, I swear they all look at me and expect to speak their language. Maybe they can sense I don’t own a gun, ballsy little creatures. |
