It depends on whether cops are around or not. Except through school zones. I drive 5 under in active school zones, because of safety and with the assumption that a cop is hiding somewhere, ready to pounce. Fun story: the only time in the last 30+ years that I got pulled over for speeding was in Texas, maybe 10-12 years ago. Note that I have Virginia tags, and I'm relating this in Freedom units. I'm driving on a non-interstate highway where the limit is posted at 65. I'm doing like 75. Enormous Texan gender-affirming pickups are passing me left and right. Well, just left; I'm in the right lane. If I had to estimate, most of them are doing 80-85. Guess who the cops pull over. Go ahead, guess. Ding! You're right: me. Turns out the first time caught speeding in Texas is, by law, a warning (I'm pretty sure the second time is death by hanging), so the only consequences were a piece of paper, some time lost, and a story about Texas cops harassing out-of-state drivers. To be clear: I was totally speeding. I can admit and own that. I'm not complaining about getting pulled over per se. Just about being singled out for not being from around there. |
