Re: Dialogue and action struggle
I have only been writing seriously for over a year. What has helped me with dialogue is a writers' group online.

The advice I received was any dialogue needs to move the story forward. It needs action or purpose that is relevant to the story.
Know what role they play antagonist or protagonist and what are they doing in the story. Are they talking about something that is going to happen or reacting. Too much dialogue about anything that does not move the story is boring.

It's on YouTube also.

Best of luck on your journey to get your message out.
