To put it with comedy - I came for the fetish (pun intended), stayed for the story.

But, in a more serious tone, while character study is one thing, my main interest is the secrets behind BoM. When it delves a lot into school stuff, I get lost - however, when the story delves into exploring the Stellae, or the book itself, or the minutiae of magic, that's when I delve the most.

That's not to say that the fetishism isn't there, but they coexist, and thrive when both are driven together within the story.
