I suppose it depends on how you'd define an influencer. If you define influencers as anybody who has a "platform" or an "audience" and shares thoughts/opinions, insight, advice, etc. then yes, definitely. I subscribe to a lot of YouTube channels, social media accounts, and podcasts where experts cover topics like TTRPGs, the entertainment industry, emerging technology, current affairs, DIY repairs, legal explainers, etc., many of whom are reporting on the news of the day. If you define influencers more narrowly (and pejoratively), as those who are "famous for being famous" (i.e., their audience/influence comes not from any particular expertise but just from a devotion to a particular individual for some reason... then no. I really dislike "influencer" culture where random voices are lifted up just because the person is attractive, charismatic, loud, opinionated, etc. I tend to like my news to come from professionals who take reporting seriously, even if those professionals have a platform and an online personality. |
