My family was never really big on costumes; whatever we wanted to be for Halloween was often a matter of the minimum amount that could be spent. For example, when I wanted to go as Indiana Jones one year, my parents got me a plastic whip, a plastic fedora, and told me to find a fanny pack, button-down shirt, and chinos that I already had in my closet.
I always envied the kids whose parents let them go all-out on elaborate costumes. Still envy the adults who have the time and effort to put into something like that!
