There was something about disinformation I remember from last year, that they found that most of the disinformation about vaccines could be traced back to four people. So, ultimately, there are people behind the 'bots but a lot of the postings are by sockpuppet 'bots.

There is a book, "Enshittification" by Cory Doctorow, that is a real, if disaapointment in humanity, eye opener about the world we have created.
