I used to spend a lot of time in scroll. Nowadays I feel like it moves too quickly for my taste. Besides, with forum posts (or even the newsfeed), I have access to WritingML to help add tonal cues. (Much as I believe tonal cues can be derived from word choice, punctuation, and other strictly text-based choices, having things like bold and underlining available does also help.)
