Well, I've had horses, ball pythons, ferrets, and even, for a short time , a tiger. OK, the tiger wasn't mine, but I was in charge of feeding, transporting, and caring for it. No, it didn't live in the house.
Here, I think a Coatimundi (think of a cross between a raccoon and ant anteater) would be a fun pet. From the few interactions I've had with them they seem gentle and intelligent.
