Not in my public school, at least. Since the question was about what I wish I, personally, had learned, I was talking about my experience specifically, and I can't speak for the rest of the country and current school curricula in that regard. Another clarification: I know in England, "public school" means something different, and I'm not sure about Australia, NZ, or Canada, but in the US, that refers to the tax-funded education system. I vaguely remember there might have been an 8th grade (generally the final year before high school here) intro to languages course, which would have been designed to help students decide which language to take in high school. But, if memory serves, that was limited to French, Spanish, and German. That was quite a long time ago, of course. |
