The most unique non-profit in my area is disguised as a bookstore. Underdog Bookstore is a safe place for LGBTQ+ authors, artists, neighbors. Underdog Bookstore  in Monrovia, CA sells book and hand crafted items. New books are all from independent authors. Traditionally published books are all in the used books section. But that is not all. It offers literature based activities like an author meetup, a banned book club, and full moon writing meditations. Once a month, Underdog Bookstore puts out a call for food, pet food, and essential supplies and gives them away to anyone who needs them. No questions asked. Once a month, there is a guided community grief circle. I recently discovered this store. It's not exactly local to me, but it's closer than Los Angeles, which means something. LOL For the geeks in us, it's also half a block away from the West Coast's Warhammer 40,000 store. Annette  |
