Online, there are tons of email scams - buy this, your account is about to be locked, yadda yadda yadda. Best thing I have found to do with these, don't click on them, just put them in the trash. And in my opinion, cookies are scams. I don't want these companies tracking everything I look at just so they can inundate me with ads for everything under the sun! And then the phone scams...They use random numbers that aren't flagged as SPAM, so I answer. Once I've dealt with these people calling from one number, I'll block that number, but they call from a new number every time - a lot of the numbers look local. I get those that call and never say anything, just weird computer beeps. I get calls that someone is trying to log onto one of my online accounts and I need to verify that it isn't me doing it, Microsoft or Facebook usually, although I have had them say they were from other online services. Then I get those that call saying "I am from [insert company here] and ask for my information". I actually had one of these recently where the person said "I am from your bank" not the name of the bank. "Your bank." I wonder if they thought I was an idiot! Or some will call saying they're from my health insurance company, from my student loan servicer, my credit card company (I have no credit cards) - and it is almost always the same voices on the other end wanting my information. They don't seem to give up. |
