You could have been the next Picasso or Dali. I use to paint on a velvet canvas but the picture was already drawn out. It wasn't by numbers. They gave me the velvet canvas and paint which I took it from there. I was never an "artist" in the pure sense of the word. I'm lucky I could draw stick figures...lol I can understand the apprehension on continuing because being afraid of ruining what you did. From what you said, looks like you chose the correct one of the two. Plus as you said, you're much better at it.
