purge bin unusual behaviour.

Hi, i just deleted an item by purging recycle bin, before which i had 47 items. yet after getting rid of the item the site still kept my item counter at 47. i deleted another item and this time it made the counter 46. but i'm still 1 item ahead even though as i said now: i deleted 2. i'd appreciate a help in this because i really need the space.
