This filtering did start with the recent update. Only can tell us if we can turn it off.

The workaround I suggested is working for me. I just go to the Trash folder and forward the messages I want to keep to an off-site email.

I also just tested this: you can also forward a message you want to keep to yourself at your WdC address.
