Welcome to the family. I don't think you'd be here if you didn't want to write, so you've already got one tool in hand. And you mentioned reading, that's another vital tool. If you wade through a pile of writing advice by successful authors they may vary widely concerning outlining, character development, etc. But they all agree on one point: reading! Read everything you can get your hands on! You can do a lot of that right here at WDC. We have members writing in every style, in every genre. You're bound to find something you enjoy.

And most importantly: have fun! This is a great community.
