Privatized Rating System

Hello all! Just pondering something. Sometimes I wonder if it would be of any value to have the capability of 'privatizing' one's own ratings view for individual items. I often get the feeling that a story will receive a rating based on what previous readers have rated it. If the author used a 'hidden' view of ratings, then he/she may receive more honest reviews. Has this occured to anyone else or is it just me?
