One key part of writing is character development. There are many techniques available to assist writers in developing their characters so readers can connect and come away with a good understanding of the character and their motives. This contest explores those techniques.

Character Prompt for March 2026:

Write a story about a character who is at their absolute lowest point.
What did they do? Where do they go from here?

The task is simple: Write a short story using the prompt above as inspiration.

Your entry must be:

Fiction.

Based on the prompt above. Your character should be well developed and integrated into the story narrative.

Originally written by you. Using generative AI to write your story for you is prohibited and may result in disqualification without notice.

Rated 18+ or lower. Graphic content is not permitted, including GC or XGC items.

2,000 words or less. A word count must be included in the body of your item (top or bottom, not in the intro/header).

Newly written for this contest. Create your entry as a Static Item and keep it in your portfolio. Submit it using the survey form below.
