Angelica did a double take of her own as she looked at who had entered. Her lips formed a sneer that was tempered only by the fact that Kat’s mother was standing behind her.
Oh God! Why did Angelica have to be here for this! It should be her moment of triumph and instead it was far more likely to be another complete humiliation to add to her collection... Kat thought, warily walking to meet her arch enemy on, apparently, her territory.
“Why are you here?” Angelica asked, looking down her nose at Kat’s eyes, not bothering to cast a glance to her improving body. “It’s not like you’ll ever need a bra with those bee stings you call breasts,”
“What kind of greeting is that? You work here, right? Ever heard of customer service?” said Kat’s mother in an outraged tone. “Please treat my daughter with some respect, or I’ll see that your manager knows about your attitude!”
Kat smiled inside. Her mom didn’t even know anything about Angelica’s bullying, but she was upset at even this relatively minor show of disrespect.
“Now, she clearly needs a bra--just look at her chest!” said her mother testily.
Angelica’s eyes bulged as she actually did as Kat’s mom demanded. There were actually swells in the thin top Kat had worn for the momentous occasion. Angelica couldn’t believe it, but the girl really was in need of a bra!
Angelica grudgingly pulled out her tape measure and measured Kat’s rib cage. 26 inches. She pulled it around the fullest point of her breasts. 27 3/4 inches. She sniffed, didn’t say a word, and walked to the back and selected several 30B options.
Angelica gave Kat a cold look, wound up to throw the bras at her, then glanced to her mother’s stern face. Kat’s mother tapped her toe as she gave Angelica a warning look. Angelica scowled, then handed the bras to Kat, pointing her finger toward the changing room.
Kat nodded, again amused at her mom’s uncanny ability to handle the bitchy girl, and pulled the door closed behind her. She tried on the bras, and they all seemed to fit. They were maybe a little oversized in the cups, but when she reached into the bra and pulled her breasts up and out in the cups, then smooshed the cups of the bra together a bit. Her breasts seemed to fill them well enough. Besides, a little room was probably a good thing. As long as the book continued to work its magic, she would likely need that much room and more in the coming days.
She looked in the mirror, seeing her proper breasts in a proper bra and smiled. She never thought she would see the day.
“How is it going, dear?” she heard from outside the fitting room.
“Fine,” she said, pulling the door open, a bit self-conscious showing herself in nothing but a bra. She just hoped Angelica wasn’t watching. She knew, however, that her mom would insist anyway.
Her mother’s eyes seemed to illuminate as she gasped in maternal pride.
“They’re perfect, Kat! You really are developing into a pretty young woman,” she said as if stating it out loud would make it more real somehow.
Kat blushed at her mom’s reaction.
“Mom! Stop it! You’re embarrassing me!”
“I’m sorry, dear. It’s just that I’ve been waiting for this for so long… I’ll give you your privacy now. Just make sure to get at least five. Then, your embarrassment will be over,” she winked.
Kat couldn’t believe it. Her mother had never winked at her in her entire life! Confused at what this new mannerism actually meant, Kat shut the door. She picked out her favorite five and exited the changing room.
She didn’t see Angelica around, thankfully. As she followed her mother to the cash register, she surreptitiously snagged two 30Cs from a display, trading it out for two of her five. At the rate she was growing, she was probably going to need it.
Her mother paid for the bras and squeezed her shoulder as they left in a wordless sign of affection while Angelica brooded, watching them from a crack in the door to the back room.
