Chapter #6

an all-you-can-eat restaurant

    by: Unknown
Taking up multiple storefronts on the next block is a huge restaurant, the neon sign above the windows reading "Jake's All You Can Eat." The place is massive - you can see seats wrapped around the whole perimeter, with dozens of food stations arranged throughout the building.

"Wow, this place looks incredible," you offer to the roo, not sure what to say.

"Thanks!", Jake replies, beaming. "It's my pride and joy, just opened it up and we're already seeing great business." To back up his statement, even though it's still breakfast time, you can see plenty of furs scattered throughout the place enjoying their meals.

Over the next fifteen minutes, the kangaroo gives you a walk-around tour of the place. Turns out he was a culinary school graduate who couldn't decide what he wanted to specialize in, so he didn't. Instead, he tried to develop recipes for every single cuisine he liked and stuck them all in one place. The bathrooms are spotless, the tables and chairs beautiful, and the food smells heavenly. By the time he finishes walking you around, you're already a fan, and you haven't even tried the food yet.

As the tour winds down, Jake asks you what you plan to do about your job. To be honest, you reply, you have no idea. You hate your old job, so you won't be fighting to get it back, but your skills aren't exactly up to par in the market. It might take a while for you to land your next opportunity.

"Ever tried sumo?", the kangaroo replies. You laugh at what seems like a jokey statement, but he's serious. "No, really, I have a bunch of friends who are into it. This city has a decent sumo scene. Good pay for anyone who can win the occasional round, too."

You stare at him in disbelief. "No offense, sir," you reply, "but I'm not exactly the sumo figure," pointing at your slim physique.

"Well, that's certainly true," Jake says. "Still, it's an option if you're struggling in the future. You'd have to put on some pounds, but it seems like a fun pastime. Some of them are even making it a career."

You thank him for the advice, and though you agree it might be fun, it's not exactly high on your list right now.

"Oh! By the way, I still need to apologize, yet again, for what happened earlier," Jake adds. You try to tell him he's been kind enough, but he replies that he's only more convinced by your respect. He goes behind the hostess station and comes back with a card in hand. "Friends of mine eat free here, no matter what," he tells you, handing you a lifetime card good for free meals whenever you want. You thank him profusely - if nothing else, you won't need to worry about paying for food for a while. Jake wishes you well as you leave, waving goodbye before you set your mind on sending out applications.
