Reduction

"You know, they say she demanded of Duncan right then 'Bow to me now' as if she were already his queen. But those who do not know her know little of her fragility."
-Razard, Keeper to the Queen

She turned and headed down the tunnel. She did not look back. She heard him fall into step behind her.
"Stop." The man said. She obeyed and a torch sprang to light in the mans hands. For the first time he could see his face. His hair was short but wildly unkept. A piece of rag wrapped around his head kept his hair from his eyes and also covered his left.
"Here ," he said thrusting the torch into her hands, "Hold this." She took the flame from him as he knelt to the ground. The flames danced eclectically on the end of the stick, but for some reason never quite burned it. As a matter of fact it wasn't even actually touching the stick at all. She stared at it in wonder as the man rummaged through his pack. He looked back up at her, apparently having found what he was after.
"Sit down and give me your ankle." She had been limping on it for hours, he thought, yet hadn't uttered so much as a groan. Tough little devil. He wrapped her ankle and took the torch from her. His hand reached down out of the shadows. Snow White took it and leaned against him as the continued walking.
"Where are we going?" She ventured after some time.
"This tunnel leads out into the Easter Highline. From there we will be able to move freely to the Forsaken Ridge." She pushed away from him.
"The Ridge! Have you forgotten who I am."
"On the contrary. I know exactly who you are...do you!"
"I am the princess of-"
"You are nothing more than a common beggar now. You're mother is dead and your father has tried to kill you. I have forsaken my oath to save you at a dying man's request and have probably brought judgment on my people. Do not venture to call yourself a princess, or queen, for you are neither. Not as long as your father remains on the throne."
Silence enveloped the pair for the rest of the trip. Irritated by her insolence the man refused to talk to her. Presently they reached the end of the tunnel. To the left lay the Gilded Plains and to her right the Highline.
"Make your choice. Princess." He hissed.
