Caitlin let her body decide for her. Without thinking about it, she slipped into her office, closing her door behind her. She heard the reassuring click of her door shutting.
Hoping and praying that she wouldn't be bothered for the rest of the day, Caitlin sat down behind her desk. She turned on her desk-lamp, then started working on the first of the several memos she had to write.
As she had hoped, taking care of the pile of work that waited for her at her computer took her the rest of the day. Her phone didn't ring, she had only a few e-mails, and she was able to take her mind off her problems, at least for now.
She would still have to figure out a way to get back to her apartment on the other side of town without being seen, but she had several hours before she would have to deal with that.
Finally, however, five o'clock came around, as Caitlin knew it would. She heard voices in the hallway outside, the sounds of some of her co-workers leaving for the day. She stayed at her desk.
Finally, when it was almost six o'clock, Caitlin finished her work and shut down her computer. The building, at least the part she worked in, should be empty by now, so no one would see her in this state.
Using the clipboard Todd gave her earlier in the day to cover her crotch, Caitlin went to her door. She opened it and slipped into the hallway. Once there, she looked around. As she had thought, it was empty.
Of course, she still had to go down several floors before she could leave.
