Amelia had not shoved much beyond half the length of the stick before she knows she has hurt the dragon. Unfortunately hurt and killed are vitally different here. But there is no choice but to finish pushing.
As she does, the dragon erupts in furious pained action. Amelia has the satisfaction of knowing the dragon is going to regret eating her. But she only has a moment to be satisfied before the dragon's convulsions knock her out.
2 days later the dragon spirit sees the red dragon has finally died from the wound. "In truth, his food disagreed with him."
"Rather a pity the girl did not survive. She had lots of pluck and might well have made it.
"Still, brave dragon queens have caused much trouble in the past, so perhaps it is just as well."
