You scowl internally, at your naiveté. The enemy had a vanguard too, slaughtered the real family living there, and used the opportunity to probe your strategy. You'd still won the day, and vanquished the enemy. However, the victory was tainted by being so narrow. It should've been far more overwhelming.
Your disgrace flaunted in your face, as the first battle charges were in full flow. The 'farmer's wife' was being toasted at the high table of their command staff. Your fist threatening to crush the spyglass, and the others in your own staff, recognising her too.
With this betrayal so public, and your victory so slim a lesson needed to be learnt, and you were the one to be taught it. There would be further assaults against the rival burgh, but you wouldn't be trusted to lead them. Instead, you were already stripped of your rank and titles. Awaiting the final deliberations of the sequestered panel.
You know the full range of penalties are being considered for your punishment. The death penalty being least likely, as that's seen as too easy a way out. But, for your indiscretion, feminisation is very likely. The degree of punishment could be wide. The public degree of your punishment will also be open to interpretation. A recognisable whore, or just another anonymous one, a lighter sentence could be served in the Sultan's harem under his personal scrutiny. Hybrids are a terrifying possibility, a reduction to eunuch and so forth. Technically, you might be released with just a stiff warning, maybe a crippling financial penalty. But, that really is just a technical possibility.
Your head snaps up, as the door opens. The panel are returning, their expressions hard to read. But, again it's only a matter of degrees.   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
