This choice: Naruto Wanting To Go Search For Sasuke • Go Back... Tsunade ruffled through the horrible stack of official Konoha documents that sat on her desk, searching for her latest status report. Since Sasuke left the village, things had been worse than ever. The morale within the village was slipping, and she had to find some way to boost the public’s interest in world affairs. Being a hokage never seemed as though it was going to be so much hassle. Still, she was a gambling woman, and these were the hands fate dealt her.
“Ah, finally,” she muttered to herself as she yanked a slip of paper from the stack, causing the pile to spill over. The loose paper covered the desk, and Tsunade sighed. From outside her office, she could hear noises which didn’t seem normal. There was a loud, muffled crash, followed by frantic footsteps. She stood, clenching her fists tight and preparing herself for the worst. What she got instead was… Naruto.
The door burst open, and there stood Naruto Uzumaki, his finger pointed directly at Tsunade’s enormous bust. This of course, wasn’t something that he did consciously, but one has to wonder.
“It took me twenty minutes to get here, so listen up!” Naruto declared loudly, forcefully placing his fist against his chest. “Today’s the day that I go out and find Sasuke! You’re going to give me full permission to gather a team and scour the land of the mist!”
Tsunade stared at Naruto for a moment, then answered, “No.” Naruto staggered backward, then asked in a whiny voice, “But why not, granny Tsunade? It’s been weeks, no, months since we’ve made any progress with the Sasuke case! You’ve said it yourself, we need to get more done! So, please, please!” He raised his hands together in a praying motion, pleading with her.
“Absolutely not,” she said firmly. “When I said we need to get more done, I meant that we need to buckle down right here. We have far too much to do here in Konoha, and it’d be a waste of man-power to send a team off to the land of mist.” Just then, Shizune entered the room and took a look around.
“Oh, thank heavens,” Shizune sighed. “With all the ruckus around here, I thought we were under attack.”
Tsunade ran her fingers through her blonde hair, then shook her head. “No, no… Naruto just popped in to pay me a visit. You know, the whole, ‘give me what I want’ bit.” Shizune nodded in understanding. Tsunade motioned toward the door, saying, “Will you please show Naruto out of the facilities. I’ve got more than enough work to do.”
“Right,” Shizune responded, placing her hand upon Naruto’s shoulder. “Please come with me, Naruto. Tsunade-sama has a lot of things to deal with-”
Naruto shrugged his shoulder violently, knocking Shizune’s hand off of it. “No!” he yelled, just as firmly as Tsunade had been. “If you’re not going to let me look for Sasuke, I want another mission. I want an S-Rank mission.”
Tsunade let out a deep sigh. “But you didn’t complete the last mission you were sent on successfully, remember? You were asked to go to the Far Lands and pick up the medicinal herbs, yet you happened to ‘lose’ them on the way back.” As she said this, something donned onto Naruto.
“Oh! The herbs, that’s right!” He pulled the mission bag from his back and retrieved from it a small box. The box looked as though it had been tossed about for some time, and there was even a slight tear in the side. Naruto rushed toward Tsunade and thrust the package forward a little too forcefully. Small pieces of the herbs fell all over desk from the tear in the side, but he managed to keep his grip on the box. “Here, so now the mission is successful and I can get to work on the next one, right?”
Now that she had the herbs in her possession, Tsunade no longer had to worry about filling out a ‘mission failure’ report. She sighed and grabbed the box from Naruto, then set it upon the desk. “I guess so, but I’m not prepared to hand out your next assignment. Come back in about three hours and I’ll have one ready for you.”
Naruto threw his hand in the air victoriously, saying, “That showed you to underestimate me!”
“Oh, and Naruto,” Tsunade began, “Wash your hands. Those herbs are poisonous.” Shizune then led Naruto out of the office while he worried frantically about whether he’d been poisoned and was going to die. As soon as the two were gone, Tsunade grabbed her tea cup and drained its contents in one quick gulp. Today had been such a hassle, and trying to keep track of Naruto’s next mission would be even worse.
An odd pressure was building up in her stomach, though she wasn’t sure what it was. Perhaps stress, she thought, and continued to file through the mound of paperwork. Little did she know that this pressure was much worse. | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
