Espio opened the door to the building forcefully. He'd been away from the agency for about a week due to having to train a little with his sensei, but he was looking forward to getting back on the job and earning some wages. As soon as he shut the door behind him, he noticed a small note on the noticeboard to the left. Snatching it with curiosity, Espio held it up to his face to read. It went as follows;
'Espio,
Gone away to Mighty and Ray for summer holidays. I'll be back in three months. Vector knows already, so I just wrote this for you.
Charmy'
"Well, that figures. I thought it was unusually quiet around here" Espio remarked, before crumpling the note in his hand. He tossed it into the waste basket as he walked through to the office. "Good evening Vector" he called out in no particular direction. "I have returned to resume my duties as a Chaotix member, I do hope you don't mind the overrun, the results came a little late." Slinging his bag of equipment down on the deck, Espio opened up his locker and began to file the documentation into the fire bow he owned. Following this, he took out the scrolls oout of the bag and placed them upon the top shelf where they belonged. Then, he rummaged through his weapons to put back on their hooks. He had all sorts; Shuriken, Kunai, Sai, poison darts..."Vector, are you there?"
Espio finally realised that his boss hadn't responded to him at all, nor was he anywhere to be seen. "Maybe I should leave the sorting for later..." he murmured before running full pelt around the lower floor of the agency. No matter where he looked however, there was no sign of Vector. In a flurry of concern, he dashed upstairs and checked on Vector's bedroom. "Oh no!" Espio gasped as he took a gander. There were clear signs that there had been some sort of struggle in here, the furniture looked like it had been hit by a bomb! Espio deduced that Vector had been abducted unwilling, and sighed in helplessness as he knew he couldn't do anything about it until morning. "Can't call Charmy at these late hours. Might as well get some sleep before mounting a rescue mission". He slowly made his way to his own bedroom, removing his shoes and gloves when he got there, where he climbed into bed hoping his worries weren't enough to keep him awake.
Unfortunately, as he was close to drifting off, a sharp whistling noise forced him to sit up straight, his paranoia obviously uncomfortable. "What was that?" he whispered to himself. Clambering out of bed, he grabbed a nearby torch and shined it towards the door. Seemingly, there was no one there, but that didn't stop him from being suspicious. 'I don't like this at all...oh well, I do need my rest' Espio thought, before turning around. When he did, he felt a fierce brushing on his arm. "Hey man, get that light outta my face!" a jawed figure winced before crashing to the floor. "Crocodilians! Three of them!" Espio shouted as he saw the identity of the figures that had entered his room before. He low kicked the one he'd blinded before jumping to the wall. "You must be the ones who abducted Vector, dishonourable fiends!" He climbed up the wall and grabbed a second goon with his tails. "Mmph, you're kinda heavy even for a croc. Lose some weight, please." With a powerful lash, he tossed the goon across the room and knocked him out, and gracefully fell to the floor himself. "Come to think of it, you could stand to improve the hygiene too. Now where is that third..." he managed to monologue, until he felt a sharp pain in his arm.
Espio let out a scream of agony as he felt a numb sensation spread up his arm. He spun around to face the third goon, who had managed to inject some sort of substance into his body. "We're sorry about all this, chameleon, really we are." he apologised profusely to Espio, who hissed with rage in response. "It's just that you're wanted elsewhere, and this is the easiest way to transport live goods". Espio growled, before attempting to retort. "Live goods? Do you know how disrespectful that sounds? I don't care if...I'm numb, I shall make sure...you pay dearly for...your...your..." Espio struggled, before collapsing on the floor unconscious. "It ain't no big deal chameleon, it's only tranquiliser" the goon responded before picking up Espio and hoisting him on his shoulder. Before he could move out, a shadowy feminine figure glided in, looking over the limp body of the chameleon she desired. "How touching of him to care so much about his friend! The poor dear needn't worry so much; he'll be joining him in our ranks soon enough..."
