"Hi," said Celeste over her shoulder as I came into the shop. "How's it going?"
"Not bad," I said, "just had lunch with Dmitri."
"Ooh, I saw him yesterday! He's as big as ever," she chuckled. "That'll learn his parents, eh? Pretty impressive, managing to gain weight at fat camp." I watched her come down the ladder; not overweight, Celeste nevertheless had a nice curvy figure, helped I think by her very sweet tooth. She handed me a pile of dog-eared secondhand paperbacks and said, "We can get rid of these, Zillah says, they've been here for ages and nobody's bought them. She wants more shelf space for the new Umbra books that are coming in." I looked at the titles; most of them seemed to be in a weird foreign language. "Then we've got a whole load of pricing to do. But hey, look on the bright side, she left us some home-baked cookies before she left."
She motioned for me to follow her to the back room, but just then the bell over the door rang. I looked round to see that the two goths had left – had they stolen something? Maybr I should just leave it, I couldn't really be bothered going after them.
