Chapter #6

Thanatos

by: Trever Kelley Author IconMail Icon
Waking quickly, you notice to your relief the dragon still on your chest. You move to get up then suddenly notice a sharp pain in you upper back near your shoulders. When you reach back to feel, there is nothing there but the pain persists until you get off your back for a good while.

Wondering about the ghost pain, your mind drifts elsewhere until finally coming back to the dragon, who was just now waking.

"You need a name." you proclaimed to the dragon who grew anxious at the thought. Somehow, it knew what was happening, but you could not figure out how. The same Anxiety flew through your mind at that time and a wild thought came to you. Was this emotion from the dragon? You quickly brushed off the idea knowing it was insane but still kept the thought at the edge of your mind.

"How about Reineer?" you asked in a joking tone not expecting an answer. Though the dragon did not give you one verbally, he did shake his head quite strongly. Wow, it understood me. Even at birth dragons can comprehend so much! A rush then enveloped your mind, completely enveloping you. Instead of retreating or fighting back, you welcomed it. This feeling was calm and reassuring, as if the presence had the same feelings that you held for the dragon youth.

As you bathed in the feeling in your mind, a crazy idea came to mind. What if this was the dragon's doing, sending me these soothing images to calm me down. Almost immediately after the thought vanished a wave of confirmation drove itself into your mind. "You are indeed something special little one. Now back to your name," thinking hard only one name stuck for this Opal beauty. "How about Thanatos?" The wave of assurance entered your mind and the dragon jumped toward your face licking vigorously, obviously happy that it had a name.

You then knew that you had to leave the cave and head somewhere safe to raise Thanatos well, and keep you both safe from harm. Your defensive spells may have been strong, but you had no training in attacking with them. Using unknown spells is something you knew not to try. Unless you knew exactly what to do with the spell, It could have random effects, worst of all backfiring in your face. You had to leave to somewhere safe but in your situation where could you go?

If you went back home, the militia would question what happened at the cave unless you avoided them and if you did for long enough they would consider you a deserter and throw your family in prison as a way of paying for your deed. Also, Thanatos would most definitely grow at an alarming rate and would only make it more difficult to hide his presence. No this option was out of the question.

The only other two both required you to leave the Human Territory and into the Dragons. You could travel To the Jupin wood across the Xanthen river. Once there, hope you are not seen so you could raise Thanatos peacefully. Also you could attempt to confront some dragons and request their aid. If they saw that you were unarmed, they would not kill you and you knew that Thanatos would be there to help out the situation also.
