Actually, surprise was a bit of an understatement.

Just as Rouge stepped inside the machine, Tails got a great idea. Rouge has a very womanly
figure that she flaunted at just enough to be on the border of "cock tease" and "whore."
What would she do if she lost all of that? What would she do if she was...

"Oh man," Tails thought, "I have to try that. The look on her face is going to be worth more than anything she's ever stolen!"

"Rouge, I'm going to get a camera to document this, but I'm locking you inside the machine. I know you're just going to steal
something if I turn my back, especially considering that you're in the same room as a Chaos emerald." Tails fiddled with the controls
for a moment and heavy metal bolts hydraulically clanged into place. It would take a runaway train to break that door open.

As he was walking away, he heard Rouge whine "Oh come on, you don't trust me?"

"Name someone who does."

"Well, there's-"

"Hard mode: it doesn't count if you tricked them into it," Tails yelled over his shoulder.

Inside the machine, Rouge tried and tried to remember the last person who actually trusted her for who she was.
She was still deep in thought by the time Tails got back and had set up the camera. She didn't even notice him
snickering with anticipation.

Rouge was defeated. "Fine, I can't think anyone who actually trusts me."

"Oh wow," Tails thought, "that is the most pathetic thing I have heard in a long time. Sort of a mood killer, actually."
Tails was back at the controls entering the desired changes. He was about to unlock the door when he realized he may have
just hit an emotional subject for Rouge. "Great, now it's not funny anymore AND I may be about to anger an expert martial artist. I'd better
keep her inside until I can gauge her reaction. Oh, the sacrifices I make for science..."
