“I’m older so dibs!” He yelled. He tossed Morgan a few feet into the air and caught her, laughing. Morgan was mortified.
“Hey! No! You guys go to the living room now!” Ashley said, taking Morgan from Matt. As the kids left the room Ashley opened her hand.
“Ms. Brown, you’re so tiny. What on earth happened?”
“I signed up for some stupid test for some money to make ends meet. Now I’m like an inch tall.”
The women were interrupted.
“Hey Ash, is Morgan around? I feel like we haven’t been on the best of terms and I wanted to see if she wanted to grab a coffee or a drink. But when I walked in Hannah kept saying ‘mommy small’… is everything okay?” Stephanie asked.
Great. Stephanie. This was the last thing Morgan needed. She remembered when she first met Mike. She stopped smoking and lost 20 pounds to make him happy. Now he was married to Stephanie, a chubby smoker.
“Uhhh… yeah,” Ashley said, looking down at Morgan. She walked over to Stephanie and held out her hand.
“Oh wow. Lemme guess, you did that study?”
“What?” Morgan asked. “How’d you know?”
“It’s all over the news. 40 people are so were shrunk. They’re asking for them to lay low with people they trust until they have a solution.”
Stephanie reached down into Ashley’s hand and picked you up between her thumb and forefinger, lifting you off of the babysitter’s palm.
“I’ve been hoping we can get closer,” Stephanie said. “Maybe this is what we needed.”
Morgan realized arguing was a waste of time.
“Yeah, maybe,” the diminutive woman said.
“Ashley, I’m gonna hang out with Morgan for a while. I’ll pay you double time to stay with the kids.”
“Sounds good to me,” Ashley said, apathetic to Morgan’s situation.
