You are the first human in history to go to a school for giant anthros.

This choice: Your score is horrible, you need to be in a "special" P.E. class  •  Go Back...
Chapter #7

Carnivores and Herbivores

    by: Unknown
“Human, your scores are terrible. You need to be in a special class,” the ox says and your heart sinks. Beneath you, you can feel Zen’s muscles tense up. Zen must be shooting him a pretty dirty look because the ox looks at him before turning his attention back to you. “Unfortunately they won’t let me place you in any special class since you have to be in all of Mr. Fen’s classes. You probably couldn’t keep up with the special students anyways,” the ox finishes with a dismissive wave.

Zen turns and walks away without a word. He has seemed pretty friendly up until this point, but that ox really seems to have angered him. Considering you were the one that the ox had just been talking about you were the one that should be angered. What you feel, though, is shame. There is no way you can compete with these anthros. This was definitely going to be tough adjusting too. You had been one of the top students back in your school and now you were on the bottom of the class. Maybe you could do better in some of the other classes. There was something you just had to ask right now though. “Your name is Zen Fen?”

“It’s actually Zenten Ren Fen. My parents decided to be jokesters when they named me.” He sounded a little angry right now so you dropped the subject, but you did kind of like the name.

As Zen walked over to join the other students the cheetah walked up to meet you. She flashed you what you were sure was meant to be a friendly smile. “Wow, don’t you two look in need of cheering up,” she says in a light, almost joking tone. “Don’t worry about the ox human, he was born with one hoof in his mouth. Besides, you’re a lot faster than my old human friend used to be.”

Now that was interesting. She used to have a human as a friend. “Used to?” you ask.

“Yeah, before my family moved out here. He was a little fat, but a nice guy. I also wouldn’t have made it into high school without him. I helped get him in shape for his P.E. tests and he tutored me in math, science, and, well, anything that involved a book. Now that I’ve moved out here it has been pretty hard making new friends with any humans since we don’t normally mix and that I’m now at that size where most humans think I’m going to swallow them the first chance I get. Oh, my name’s Felicia by the way,” Felicia said as she extended one clawed finger in your direction for you to shake.

You took the proffered claw and shook it. It was amazing how friendly Zen and his predatory friends are. Now this cheetah, Felicia, is being equally friendly despite crushing you in that run. If anyone could look down on you it was her. Then you started to think about something. When you had been running it had been all the herbivores that had been snickering at you. The carnivores had just looked a little uncomfortable, as if they were embarrassed about something but did not want to say anything. Even the ox teacher had been much ruder to you than the muskrat, which was an omnivore, had been.

At first you think that it should be the other way around. You try to think about why things have been this way so far. Maybe it was just that herbivores tended to object to change more than naturally inquisitive predators tended to. If you worked out in this school then there could be a whole lot of change on the horizon. The predators might view it as some type of fun adventure while the herbivores could look at it with fear. You hope you are wrong because if you’re right then you have a very large portion of this school that wants to see you fail.
